 | Why Methodist?
 | | John Wesley | The United Methodist denomination historically is a reformation denomination. It has it's unique and specific connection to the early patoral work of brothers John (1703-91) and Charles (1707-88) Wesley. In fact, as a means to better meet the needs of the people, John Wesley formed small group Bible studies, ministry outreaches to the sick and disenfranchised, etc., in such a methodical way that members of this dynamic early expression of the church became know as Methodists!
In 1968, the United Methodist Church, with over 11 million members was one of the largest Protestant denominations in the world. The church today continues in that same tradition of "ministry of the people, by the people and for the people." The denomination is "evangelical" as expressed in the belief that it is by God's grace as expressed through the gift of Jesus, that through faith in him, and faith alone that God is able to forgive us through the death and resurrection of his son Jesus.
Much more detail about the United Methodist Church can be found on the denomination's site.
